The Molecular Biology Core Facility at Meharry Medical College is a multi-functional facility that provides to faculty, students, and staff of the college the primary service of DNA sequencing but also provides access to shared equipment housed in a centralized location and facilitates convenient and rapid access to frequently used molecular biological reagents.
The Molecular Biology Core houses a number of shared items of research instrumentation. The core also maintains an Invitrogen Supply Center that stocks many routinely used reagents for molecular biological research.
The major service activities of the Molecular Biology Core are to provide training and technical assistance with the use of shared equipment housed in the core and provide convenient access to molecular biological reagents. Training in the proper use of equipment is provided by the Laboratory Coordinator and also as needed by vendor technical personnel. The core maintains in-house freezers and supply cabinets stocked with many commonly used molecular biological reagents from Invitrogen. In-house reagents are ordered online from Invitrogen and picked up from stocks housed in the core. Invitrogen items not stocked in the core can be ordered online without shipping charges.

The CFX96 provides sensitive detection for precise quantitation and target discrimination. The optical system automatically collects data from all wells during data acquisition.
The xMark has the capability to perform standard colormetric ELISA and kinetic readings for general cell screening with 6, 12, 24, 96, 384, and 1536-well microplate formats. The xMark has a wavelength range of 200–1000 nm. xMark also has an optional incubation feature with a temperature range up to 45°C.

"The TC10 cell counter completes the counting of mammalian cells—suspended or re-suspended adherent—in one simple step, initiating a count immediately upon slide insertion. Unlike other cell counting devices, which may draw inaccurate conclusions from using a single plane of focus to assess cell viability, the TC10 cell counter scores each sample across multiple planes. The unique auto-focus technology and image analysis algorithm provide accurate and reproducible cell counts in less than 30 seconds for cell concentrations between 5 x 104 and 1 x 107 cells/ml and cells within a 6–50 µm diameter range. Since only 10 µl of suspended cells is required for counting, precious sample is conserved.
Cell viability can also be assessed with the TC10 cell counter with the use of trypan blue, a dye which is excluded from live cells and incorporated into dead cells. The system recognizes the presence of trypan blue without user intervention and provides both cell count and cell viability, in less than 30 seconds."
